The New York Knicks have agreed to sign Damyean Dotson and Matt Mooney to second 10-day hardship deals.

Dotson has averaged 10.3 minutes over two games with the Knicks.

Mooney has appeared in one game with the Knicks. 

The Portland Trail Blazers have named Rodney Billups as an assistant coach.

Billups, 38, is the younger brother of Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups. 

Billups joins the Portland staff from Milwaukee where he served as a scout for the Bucks this season.  Prior to that he was the head coach at the University of Denver for five seasons (2016-21).  Billups was also a standout collegiate player for Denver (2002-05). 

Before joining Denver, Billups served as director of basketball operations for two seasons (2010-12) and as an assistant coach for four seasons (2012-2016) at the University of Colorado under head coach Tad Boyle. 

The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed guard Brandon Goodwin to a 10-day contract via the NBA’s hardship exception.

Goodwin (6-0, 180) has appeared in seven games (5 starts) this season for the Westchester Knicks, the NBA G-League affiliate of the New York Knicks, averaging 15.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 1.86 steals in 35.1 minutes. In three previous NBA seasons (2018-2021), Goodwin spent time in Denver and Atlanta. Last season with the Hawks, Goodwin appeared in 47 games (5 starts) and averaged 4.9 points and 2.0 assists in 13.2 minutes.

The Cavs also terminated the 10-day contract of Tre Scott, who was signed on December 22 via the NBA’s hardship exception from the Cleveland Charge.

The Indiana Pacers have agreed to sign Ahmad Caver on a 10-day hardship deal.

Caver is averaging 15.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 6.9 assists in 35.7 minutes per game.

The Dallas Mavericks have agreed to sign Marquese Chriss to a second 10-day contract. 

Chriss has appeared in four games with the Mavericks, averaging 6.3 points and 4.8 rebounds in 12.3 minutes. 

The Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to acquire Rajon Rondo from the Los Angeles Lakers for Denzel Valentine.

The Lakers are giving Rondo an opportunity to play regular minutes and to also create a roster spot.

With the Cavaliers losing Ricky Rubio for the season, they suddenly had a need for a point guard to play a bigger role. Rondo has been in COVID-19 protocols since Sunday and will need to be cleared before joining the Cavaliers (20-14).

The Orlando Magic are planning to sign Freddie Gillespie to a second 10-day hardship deal. Gillespie recently completed his first 10-day with Orlando. The Magic remain down several players due to injuries and the health and safety protocols.

During his first deal, Gillespie appeared in five games for Orlando. He averaged 3.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game.

The Detroit Pistons plan to sign Jaysean Paige to a 10-day hardship deal. The Pistons currently have several players out due to injuries and the health and safety protocols.

Paige has played for the Maine Celtics of the G League this season. In 14 games (three starts), Paige has averaged 16.9 points per game. Paige has also played professionally in Germany, North Macedonia, England, France, Puerto Rico and Hungary.

The LA Clippers will sign veteran Wenyen Gabriel to a 10-day hardship contract. LA has several players out due to injuries and the health and safety protocols.

Gabriel recently completed a 10-day hardship deal with the Brooklyn Nets. Gabriel has also played with the Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings and New Orleans Pelicans in his four-year NBA career.

The Denver Nuggets are signing guard Rayjon Tucker to a 10-day contract via the hardship exception. Denver has five players out with long-term injuries and is in the midst of a COVID outbreak, as well.

Tucker recently completed a 10-day hardship deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves. The third-year guard has also played for the Utah Jazz and Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA.
