No. 7 2025 Prospect Meleek Thomas Signs With Overtime Elite

Jun 11, 2024 2:27 PM

Meleek Thomas is leaving Lincoln Peak Performing Arts High School in Pittsburgh to sign with Overtime Elite.

Thomas is the No. 7 prospect in ESPN's class of 2025.

"I did everything I needed to do where I'm from," Thomas said. "We won back-to-back state championships. Now it's time to be seen by NBA personnel, GMs, scouts, the people that you need to be in front of. At OTE they get your name out. Everything they do goes around the world. I want to be broadcasted more."

Thomas said he'll take official visits to UConn and Arkansas later this month. He's also being heavily recruited by Kansas, Auburn, Pitt, Alabama, Kansas State, Indiana, Tennessee, Miami and others.

Thomas also said he was initially caught off guard by the possibility of Dan Hurley leaving UConn for the Los Angeles Lakers.

"I didn't expect that; it just popped up," Thomas said. "He ended up turning it down, which must mean something. That definitely makes UConn more attractive now. With all the money he was offered, he's still committed to the school he built up. Being highly recruited by him means they are serious. That's the message I got."

G League Ignite To Cease Operations After Current Season

Mar 21, 2024 5:16 PM

The NBA has announced that the NBA G League Ignite will cease operations after the current season. The league said that "the decision to end the program comes amid the changing basketball landscape, including the NCAA’s Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) policy and the advent of collectives and the transfer portal."

Nine Ignite veterans are currently in the NBA, including key contributors Dyson Daniels (New Orleans Pelicans), Jalen Green (Houston Rockets), Scoot Henderson (Portland Trail Blazers) and 2022 NBA champion Jonathan Kuminga (Golden State Warriors).

“Four years ago, we started Ignite to fill a void in the basketball landscape, and I’m proud of the contributions we were able to make to that ecosystem,” said Sharif Abdur-Rahim.  “With the changing environment across youth and collegiate basketball, now is the right time to take this step.  I want to extend my sincere gratitude to general manager Anthony McClish, head coach Jason Hart and their staff and to each player who wore an Ignite jersey.  As ever, the G League’s commitment to developing top NBA talent and helping players achieve their NBA dreams is unwavering.”
